Peritoneal Dialysis Program
Peritoneal dialysis is usually performed at home by the patient or a family member. Dialysis fluid is introduced into the abdominal cavity through a small tube. The peritoneal membrane in the abdomen acts as a filter, drawing waste products into the dialysis fluid. The waste products are then removed from the body when the fluid is drained out.
The Peritoneal Dialysis program has a specialized team that works with patients and their families so they can learn how to do their own peritoneal dialysis at home. After training, patients come to the clinic for follow-up and receive ongoing support from our interdisciplinary team.
