ST. VINCENT'S HOSPITAL, HEATHER - CAMPUS OF CARE

The redevelopment of the St. Vincent’s Hospital, Heather site into a 'Campus of Care' is under way. A Campus of Care is about growth and opportunity for elders in our communities – a place where seniors come together to learn, to live and to grow.

Providence Health Care currently has approval to construct a four story building with 60 assisted living units under the Independent Living BC Program. Assisted living units are self-contained one-bedroom apartments, supported by common activity areas and staff, as well as 24-hour emergency response. In addition, the building will have eight independent apartments for young disabled adults.

Click here to view the latest pictures of the construction as of July 2007. We will be updating these pictures regularily as we continue to move forward with our renewal plans.

As Providence Health Care moves ahead with the redevelopment plans, consultation and information sharing will continue with staff, the community and external PHC stakeholders.

St. Vincent’s Hospital, Heather has been an important community partner, serving millions of patients since its inception in 1939 by the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception. Contributions of its staff and health professionals over the years will not be forgotten.

Renewal of the site allows this legacy to continue well into the future.

What is a Campus of Care?

A Campus of Care supports seniors to ‘age in place’ with a range of health and housing options including:

  • Supported Living – housing and optional hospitality services (meals and cleaning)
  • Assisted Living – personal care, housing and hospitality services (meals and cleaning)
  • Complex or Extended Care – round-the-clock professional care

While most of the individual components of the campus, have not yet been confirmed, the Campus can provide seniors in the community with:

  • Easy access to on-site clinics
  • Support services such as meals or rehabilitation
  • Health and wellness programs
  • Independence
  • Choice/flexibility and opportunities for companionship
  • Normalcy and engagement
  • Encouragement for intergenerational relationships
  • Easy access to health and supportive services
  • Support of spirituality, reflection and growth
  • Support of physical and intellectual growth

How do you choose the residents who will live on the Campus of Care?

Access into subsidized assisted living is through the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority.

To find out more about Assisted Living, please contact the health centre / office nearest you and ask to speak with a case manager.

As with all assisted living in the region, VCH screens tenants for eligibility.
