Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists work with people who have difficulty to choose, organize or perform activities (occupations) they find useful or meaningful. The activities can be anything from getting dressed, relearning to use a pen to write, to safely driving a power wheelchair to go to the mall. The difficulties could be because of medical or life situations leading to physical, cognitive or coping problems. The occupational therapist (OT) will work with the person to regain or compensate for the skills needed to do the chosen activities. At Providence Health Care, OTs provide service throughout the continuum of care from the Intensive Care Units to returning home safely. OTs also work in long term care facilities to maintain independence and involvement in meaningful activities.
