  Audiology

The Audiology Department serves as a major diagnostic and rehabilitative facility for patients with hearing loss, tinnitus, and balance disturbance. Approximately 2000 patients per year are evaluated by the service. Audiology provides hearing screening services for newborn infants and a front-line screening test for acoustic nerve tumor and other neurological conditions affecting the auditory pathways in the brainstem.

The Department's Cochlear Implant Program serves as a unique, province-wide resource for postlinguistically severe-to-profoundly deafened adults who have can no longer benefit from high-powered acoustic hearing aids. These services consist of diagnostic, consultative, and rehabilitative components.
