Maternity
Every year, 1,800 women choose to have their babies at St. Paul's, where a comprehensive obstetrical service is available for both low-risk moms-to-be and high-risk women who may require the support of an Intensive Care Unit.
The family-centred approach means that for most families all necessary care will be provided in one room. Fathers or one other significant person can stay 24 hours to support mother and baby. A Special Care Nursery is available for babies who require closer nursing observation and care. St. Paul's is a major teaching facility for obstetric physicians and nurses.
St. Paul's Maternity Centre also promotes education through Childbirth Preparation Classes. These classes include discussion about nutrition, physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, labour and delivery, tests and procedures, care of mother and baby, breastfeeding and what to expect when you get home. A Prenatal-in-a-Day workshop is a concentrated session that focuses on labour and delivery.
To register for Childbirth Preparation Classes, call 604-806-8298 or fill out this registration form. To join parents-to-be on a tour of the centre, phone 604-806-8298.
