Residential Services
Providence Health Care provides residential care and assisted living in six locations to approximately 750 elders who require a broad range of medical and personal assistance to cope with the activities of daily living.
Our residential care and assisted living facilities include:
Eden Alternative
Providence Health Care has adopted the Eden Alternative as the guiding philosophy of care. The Eden philosophy is based on 10 principles that, when followed, provide guidance on how we can help elders continue living meaningful lives when they become too frail to live independently. It creates an environment that reduces feelings of loneliness, helplessness and boredom experienced by many elders living in care homes.
Eden provides elders opportunities to be respected and honored for their wisdom, opportunities to give back to their community, and opportunities to be engaged in activities they find meaningful every day. It fosters an environment where elders want to live, where families want to visit, and where staff want to work.
If you have questions or would like more information, please consult any staff member wearing an Eden pin. To help families and friends make their visits more meaningful in an Eden setting, we have provided some tips in the form of a Visiting Handbook, which is available in English and Chinese.
Geriatric Dentistry
Elders in PHC's residential care facilities have enhanced access to dental care as part of an innovative program developed in partnership with UBC's Faculty of Dentistry. The overall goal is to improve the quality of life of residents through good oral health.
In partnership with the UBC Geriatric Dentistry Program, residents are able to have an annual oral examination completed, for a fee, at their residential care home. The fee is paid through the resident's trust fund account.
Restorative procedures and extractions are performed three satellite clinics located at Brock Fahrni, Langara and Youville Residence. Complex procedures are performed at the UBC Dental Clinic or at Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. Some fees may apply.
