When kidneys no longer work properly, patients must receive either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis treatment. Patients receiving hemodialysis may attend the St. Paul's Hospital In-Centre Hemodialysis Unit, or one of our six Community Dialysis Units (see CDU information). Patients may also choose to start on Home hemodialysis, which includes short-daily dialysis (2-3 hours), nightly dialysis (6-8 hours) or conventional dialysis (approximately 3 times per week for about 4 hours at a time) We also offer a travelers dialysis service (see Travelers Dialysis Service information).
Interpretation services are provided when needed.
Hemodialysis Service for Travelers
Visitors requiring hemodialysis services during their stay are strongly recommended to book this service well in advance of their trip, by contacting the renal program at Providence Health Care at 604-806-9034 or email mdonnelly@providencehealth.bc.ca
