Dianne Doyle
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dianne Doyle was appointed in September 2006 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Providence Health Care, one of Canada's largest faith-based health care organizations based in Vancouver, BC.
Dianne brings to the role more than 20 years of senior executive experience in health care and over 25 years directly at Providence Health Care. Before taking on this new role, Dianne was a Vice President of Clinical Programs at Providence Health Care.
Dianne began her career as a staff nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC, but since then has worked exclusively in our Providence Health Care facilities. She was a Head Nurse and Medical Instructor at St. Paul's Hospital and then moved to Mount Saint Joseph Hospital as Vice President Patient Care Services. She became the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President, Patient Care and Support Services for Mount Saint Joseph in 1995/96 and was then named Acting President and Chief Executive Officer, CHARA Health Care Society, which at the time included Mount Saint Joseph Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital, and Youville elder care residence.
Dianne is recognized as a champion of Catholic health care provincially and nationally. She is the immediate past Chair of the Catholic Health Association of Canada, Vice Chair of the Catholic Health Association of BC and Chair of the Denominational Health Association of BC. Dianne was also the inaugural Chair of the BC Health Care Leaders Association, subsequently serving as a board member for several years.
Dianne is currently a member of the Canadian College of Health Services Executives (CCHSE), the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) EXTRA Advisory Council and the Royal Roads University Centre for Health Leadership and Research Advisory Board.
She is active in her community, supporting many non-profit groups with her time and expertise, including the board of the Mission to Seafarers. In 2005 she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in support of the Alzheimer Society of BC.
Dianne has a BSN from the University of Ottawa and an MSN from the University of British Columbia. Her health leadership credentials include a CHA in Health Services Management, a CHE Certification from CCHSE, and Fellowship in CCHSE.
In 2007 and 2008, the Toronto-based Women's Executive Network named Dianne as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the Public Sector.

Mary Procter
Vice President, Finance & Corporate Affairs

Mary Procter was appointed the Vice President of Finance & Corporate Affairs for Providence Health Care on August 8, 2006.
Mary brings 20 years of finance experience to PHC, including over 17 years of accounting, business affairs management, and financial and operational planning in the health care field.
She has extensive leadership experience, guiding and overseeing the corporate financial planning in various health care organizations. Prior to joining PHC, Mary served as Regional Director of Financial Planning and Corporate Support for Vancouver Coastal Health, Finance Leader for the Vancouver/Richmond Health Board and Business Affairs Director for Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. In these various roles she has worked closely with both PHC Finance and the Senior Leadership Team. Since 2005, Mary has built a consulting business providing leadership to several health authorities here and in Nova Scotia.

Jeremy Michael Etherington
Vice President, Medical Affairs

Dr. Etherington completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at UBC in 1987, and joined St. Paul's Emergency Department as a staff physician in 1988. From 1994 to 2001, he was Chair of Emergency Medicine at SPH, and physician leader of Emergency Services for PHC from 1999 to 2001. He is also a past Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at SPH and is the past physician co-coordinator of the PHC-Simon Fraser Physicians' Executive Management Program.
At UBC, he is currently a clinical professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine where, from 1989 to 1994, he was Director of the UBC-CCFP Emergency Medicine Training Program. During this time he received two "Teacher of the Year" awards from the physician house staff of St. Paul's Hospital. His academic interests include cost-effective health resource utilization, quality improvement in health care, physician performance evaluation, and process improvement in care delivery to disadvantaged populations.
Nationally, he is Chair of the Board of Examiners of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and past Chair of the CFPC Committee on Emergency Medicine. Internationally, he has worked as a physician for Spectator Services during the 1988 Winter Olympics and has served on the International Medical Commission for the Commonwealth Games in 1994 and 1998. Dr. Etherington practices emergency medicine part time at both St. Paul's and Mount Saint Joseph Hospitals.

David Byres
Vice President, Clinical Programs & Chief Professional Practice and Nursing

David Byres was appointed Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing in May 2007 and the Vice President, Clinical Programs in August 2008. David began his career at Providence Health Care as a staff nurse in 1997. He became a Patient Care Leader for Mental Health in 2001 and was then appointed as the Director of the Mental Health Program and then as the Director of Nursing Practice. David brings with him over 17 years of professional experience in the health-care field, including in the areas of mental health and nursing. His portfolio includes responsibility as the Chief Nursing Officer spanning professional practice and education for nursing as well as the senior leader responsible for professional practice in all allied health disciplines. He is also responsible for the Mental Health, Addictions and clinical HIV/AIDS programs as well at PHC's urban health and aboriginal strategies.
David's leadership focuses on providing coordinated, interprofessional, evidence based, safe and competent care. He is responsible for the implementation of strategic directions for the mental health, addictions and HIV/AIDS programs along with nursing and allied health. He leads the continuing advancement of nursing and allied health practice and ensures the establishment, implementation and evaluation of standards of practice, quality management and academic and research advancement for professionals across Providence Health Care.
David is a registered nurse who received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. He received his Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. He is currently the President of the Xi Eta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and an executive council member of the Lower Mainland Chapter of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing and is the proud parent of two cocker spaniels.

Wendy Kai Hansson
Vice President, Clinical Programs, Providence Health Care

Wendy Hansson was appointed Vice President, Clinical Programs in September 2006. Wendy brings to the role more than 20 years senior management experience at the provincial, regional and local levels across the health care continuum, and has formally held senior roles in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, Ernst & Young, and the Ontario Ministry of Health. Prior to this new role, Wendy was the Program Director for PHC's Acute Services Program since 2002. Wendy provides senior leadership to the clinical portfolios of: Medicine, Ambulatory Care, Surgery, Emergency, ICU, Maternity, the Heart Centre, the Renal Program, Palliative Care and Access Services at St. Paul's Hospital and Mount Saint Joseph Hospital. Wendy is also the Site Leader for St. Paul's Hospital site.
Wendy is active provincially and nationally in health administration. She is currently Chair of the BC Lower Mainland Chapter of the Canadian Council of Health Service Executives (CCHSE); the Co-chair of the National Chapter Advisory Council of CCHSE; and sits on the Board of the Health Care Leader's Association of BC (HCLABC). Wendy is Co-chair to the HCLABC 2007 Leadership conference.
Wendy received her B.Sc. (Kinesiology) and Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. She also holds her Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation and is a CHE (CCHSE) candidate.

Shaf Hussain
Corporate Director, Community and Stakeholder Management

Shaf Hussain was appointed Corporate Director, Community and Stakeholder Management in February 2010.
Shaf brings with him over nineteen years experience in communications, public and stakeholders relations. Shaf provides senior leadership for Providence Health Care stakeholder-relations activities, including developing strategies and implementing plans to strengthen relationships and formal networks of PHC’s unique community, corporate, patient/resident and faith-based health care groups and partners. He is responsible for Media Services division at Providence, and also works closely with Providence foundations to enhance coordination of reputation building and public engagement initiatives.
Shaf came to Providence as the Leader of External Relations in 2003, and subsequently served as Chief Communications Officer from August 2007 to January 2010. Prior to that, he held diverse positions including serving as the Director of Communications for the British Columbia Public Sector Employers' Council Secretariat. He also held various communications positions for BC's Ministries of Finance, Labour, the Liquor Distribution Branch and the Premier's Office. In addition, Shaf has worked in communications for crown corporations in Saskatchewan, including SaskTel and SaskEnergy.
Shaf graduated in 1989 with a degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Regina.

Yvonne Lefebvre
Vice President, Research & Academic Affairs

Dr. Yvonne Lefebvre has had a stellar career in research in molecular biology and biochemistry and has an extensive background in the management of research and academic programs in universities and teaching hospitals. She is currently an Associate Dean and a Clinical Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. Dr. Lefebvre also holds the positions of Associate Vice-Rector Research and Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, and Associate Scientist at the Ottawa Health Research Institute.
Dr. Lefebvre has served on numerous national and international committees, is a Past President of the Canadian Biochemical and Molecular Biology Society and a past member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Gender and Health of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. Yvonne joined the Senior Leadership Team as Vice President Research and Academic Affairs in October 2004.

Neil MacConnell
Vice President, Strategic Development & Renewal

Neil MacConnell joined Providence Health Care in September 1998. He is responsible for the Providence Legacy Projects, which include St. Vincent's Heather Campus of Care, Richmond Campus of Care, Mount Saint Joseph's transformation and St. Paul's renewal. Neil has over 25 years of architectural, planning and construction experience in health care. He has extensive experience in project management from inception to completion, including programming, master planning, design and construction, project and construction cost control and project scheduling.
Educated in the U.K., he has a D.A. (Architecture) from Duncan of Jordanstone College, and a D.M.S. from Portsmouth. Neil has been a registered Architect since 1970 and is a Member of A.I.B.C.

Br. Thomas Maddix
CSC, D.Min, Vice President, Mission, Ethics & Spirituality

Tom joined Providence in August 2004 as Vice President, Mission, Ethics & Spirituality. A member of the Brothers of Holy Cross, he brings to the position a strong background of leadership in mission and organizational integrity, and the fostering of a culture grounded in a living spiritually within and for Catholic health organizations. Prior to joining Providence, Tom was Vice President, Organizational Advancement with the Caritas Health Group in Edmonton. His areas of responsibility there included mission ethics, spiritual care and leadership development. He also served for 10 years as Director of Mission Services for the Alberta Catholic Health Corporation and has taught graduate courses in Christian Spirituality at St. Stephen's Theological College at the University of Alberta.
Tom received his Doctor of Ministry in Organization Ethics and Spirituality from the Pacific School of Theology in Berkeley California. He also has a MA degree in organization/social ethics from the Pacific School of Theology, Berkeley, as well as a MA in English Literature from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN. He began his career in Catholic education, teaching high school and then moved onto college and graduate courses at different schools of higher learning. He is also the author of one book, Running Scared: The Call to Pilgrimage the co-author of two books, Journey to Wholeness:Healing Body, Mind and Soul and Knowing Your Ethical Preferences: A Working Guide a contributor to two others and has written numerous articles.

Zulie Sachedina
Vice President, Human Resources and General Counsel

Zulie joined Providence Health Care as Vice President of Human Resources and General Counsel in November 2001. In addition to her human resources responsibilities, Zulie also acts as General Counsel, managing all legal-related matters for the organization. Prior to embarking on a legal career, Zulie was Director of Human Resources at the Orthopedic and Arthritic Hospital in Toronto. She has a background in health administration and in law, with experience in health and human resource management, human rights, international development and administrative law. She holds a BA in Sociology and Political Science, a Masters of Health Science, and was called to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1992 and the Law Society of British Columbia in 2001. Zulie is currently an instructor for the UBC Masters of Health Administration program and was appointed to the Board of BC Human Resources Management Association in June 2008.

Barbara Trerise
Vice President, Patient Safety, Quality and Information Management

Barbara Trerise was appointed the Corporate Director Quality Improvement and Information Management at Providence Health Care (PHC) in June of 2006.
Barbara's portfolio focuses on providing the in-depth analysis, best practices, data and research to support the Senior Leadership Team's strategic decisions and includes responsibility for providing leadership to the development and operations of the Call Centre, Client Registration & Information Services, Health Records Services, Administrative Decision Support, Quality & Utilization Improvement, and Accreditation.
For Information Management, her leadership will focus on the art and science of changing or transforming data and information into useful knowledge. For Quality Improvement, she leads the development of PHC's balanced scorecard, performance indicators and the quality improvement culture throughout the hospital.
Barbara has over 25 years experience working in a variety of hospital-based nursing and administrative positions in British Columbia and Ontario. She has published articles in the areas of economic evaluation, evaluation of new work roles and utilization management. She also has been a member of various regional and provincial committees and has provided consulting services in both provinces.
Barbara completed her undergraduate degree in Administrative Studies at York University, received a Master's Degree in Health Administration at the University of Toronto and is a Faculty Associate for the Centre for Evaluation and Outcome Sciences.

David Thompson
Corporate Director, Seniors Care

David Thompson is Corporate Director - Seniors Care at Providence Health Care. In this role, he is responsible for residential services, rehabilitation services, geriatric acute medicine and mental health and assisted living services at this multi-site organization. Previously, he was Director of Residential Services for the Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia responsible for Residential Services in New Westminster and Maple Ridge. These services included complex residential care, subacute care, convalescent care and specialized geriatric ambulatory services.
Prior to moving to the Residential Services portfolio, David was the Director of Health Information Systems & Services with Fraser Health. He also worked in Information Management with Providence Health Care in Vancouver prior to joining Fraser Health. David's career also includes Director roles in the field of Quality & Utilization Improvement in British Columbia.
David holds a Master of Health Sciences (Health Administration) from The University of Toronto and a Certificate in Health Promotion & Adult Education from the University of Western Ontario.
David is a member of the Canadian College of Health Service Executive (CCHSE) and is Vice-Chair of the Lower Mainland Chapter Executive Council for CCHSE. He is also a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada (formerly CCHSA). David has served on many provincial committees and task forces throughout his career in Residential Services, Information Manager and Quality & Utilization Improvement.
