Dianne Doyle
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dianne Doyle was appointed in September 2006 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Providence Health Care, one of Canada's largest faith-based health care organizations operating 15 facilities in Greater Vancouver, BC. Providence is an academic health sciences centre affiliated with the University of British Columbia. Providence is renowned for its research in more than 30 clinical specialties, integrating it with care and teaching to deliver programs and services that span a wide continuum of acute, clinical and residential care, while focusing on six Òpopulations of emphasis.Ó These patient populations include those with cardiopulmonary risks and illness, HIV/AIDS, mental health, renal risks and illness, specialized needs in aging and urban health.
Dianne brings to the role more than 25 years of senior executive experience in health care. She is respected as a values-driven leader committed to fostering and strengthening her organization's culture as the key factor for improved innovation, staff engagement, patient/resident outcomes and organizational excellence.
Dianne is recognized as a champion of Catholic health care provincially and nationally. She is the immediate past Chair of the Catholic Health Association of Canada, Vice Chair of the Catholic Health Association of BC and Post Chair of the Denominational Health Association of BC. Dianne was also the inaugural Chair of the BC Health Care Leaders Association, subsequently serving as a board member for several years.
Dianne is currently a fellow of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL); and the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations (ACAHO) Board; Chair of Board of Canadian Advanced Medical Services International (CAMSI); and past member of the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) EXTRA Advisory Council and past member of the Royal Roads University Centre for Health Leadership and Research Advisory Board.
Dianne has a BSN from the University of Ottawa and an MSN from the University of British Columbia. Her health leadership credentials include a CHA in Health Services Management, a CHE Certification from CCHSE, and Fellowship in CCHL.
In 2007 and 2008, the Toronto-based Women's Executive Network named Dianne as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women in the Public Sector.
Dianne is active in her community, supporting many non-profit groups with her time and expertise, including the board of the Mission to Seafarers. In 2005 she climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in support of the Alzheimer Society of BC.

Mary Procter
Vice President, Finance and Planning

Mary Procter was appointed the Vice President of Finance & Corporate Affairs for Providence Health Care on August 8, 2006.
Mary brings 20 years of finance experience to PHC, including over 17 years of accounting, business affairs management, and financial and operational planning in the health care field.
She has extensive leadership experience, guiding and overseeing the corporate financial planning in various health care organizations. Prior to joining PHC, Mary served as Regional Director of Financial Planning and Corporate Support for Vancouver Coastal Health, Finance Leader for the Vancouver/Richmond Health Board and Business Affairs Director for Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre. In these various roles she has worked closely with both PHC Finance and the Senior Leadership Team. Since 2005, Mary has built a consulting business providing leadership to several health authorities here and in Nova Scotia.

Dr. Ronald Carere
Vice President, Medical Affairs

Dr. Carere received a BSc degree from the University of Guelph (1980) and his MD degree from the University of Ottawa (1984). He did postgraduate training in Toronto earning his Fellowship in Internal Medicine 1988 and Cardiology in 1990. He went on to complete a two-year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology and Research at Toronto General Hospital from 1989 to 1991.
Dr. Carere joined the Division of Cardiology at St. Paul's in 1991. His continuing clinical practice focuses on Interventional Cardiology with a special interest in interventions in congenital heart disease and CCU medicine. He served as the Associate Head of the Division of Cardiology from 1998 to 2001. In 2001 he took on the role of Physician Director of the Heart Centre Program and in 2004 he also assumed responsibilities as the Regional Director of the Cardiac Program for the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. He became Chair of the Providence Health Care Medical Advisory Committee from the fall of 2006 until May of 2010 when he took on the role of Acting Vice President of Medicine.
He has been a member of the Provincial Advisory panel on Cardiac Health since 1995, now a committee of Cardiac Services BC at the PHSA. Dr. Carere maintains active clinical research interests in several areas including work with the BC Cardiac Registry database and device use in Interventional Cardiology.

Shaf Hussain
Vice President, Public Affairs, Communications & Stakeholder Engagement

Shaf Hussain was appointed Vice President, Public Affairs, Communications and Stakeholder Engagement in July 2011.
Shaf brings with him over 20 years experience in communications, public, media, government and stakeholders relations. Shaf provides senior leadership for Providence Health Care communications and stakeholder-engagement activities, including developing strategies and implementing plans to strengthen relationships and formal networks of PHC's unique community, corporate, patient/resident and faith-based health care groups and partners. He is responsible for the Communications Department and Media Services division at Providence, and also works closely with Providence foundations to enhance coordination of reputation building and public engagement initiatives.
Shaf came to Providence as the Leader of External Relations in 2003, and subsequently served as Chief Communications Officer and member of the Senior Leadership Team from August 2007 to January 2010, and as Corporate Director, Community & Stakeholder Engagement from January 2010 to June 2011. Prior to that, he held diverse professional roles, including serving as the Director of Communications for the British Columbia Public Sector Employers' Council Secretariat. He also held various communications positions for BC's Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour, the Liquor Distribution Branch and the Premier's Office. In addition, Shaf has worked in communications for crown corporations in Saskatchewan, including SaskTel and SaskEnergy.
Shaf graduated in 1989 with a degree in Journalism and Communications from the University of Regina.

Yvonne Lefebvre
Vice President, Research & Academic Affairs

Dr. Yvonne Lefebvre has had a stellar career in research in molecular biology and biochemistry and has an extensive background in the management of research and academic programs in universities and teaching hospitals. She is currently an Associate Dean and a Clinical Professor, Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia. Dr. Lefebvre also holds the positions of Associate Vice-Rector Research and Adjunct Professor, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, and Associate Scientist at the Ottawa Health Research Institute.
Dr. Lefebvre has served on numerous national and international committees, is a Past President of the Canadian Biochemical and Molecular Biology Society and a past member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Gender and Health of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. Yvonne joined the Senior Leadership Team as Vice President Research and Academic Affairs in October 2004.

David Byres
Vice President, Acute Clinical Programs & Chief Professional Practice and Nursing

David Byres was appointed Chief of Professional Practice and Nursing in May 2007 and the Vice President, Acute Clinical Programs in August 2008. David began his career at Providence Health Care as a staff nurse in 1997. He became a Patient Care Leader for Mental Health in 2001 and was then appointed as the Director of the Mental Health Program and then as the Director of Nursing Practice.
David brings with him over 17 years of professional experience in the health-care field, including in the areas of mental health and nursing. His portfolio includes responsibility as the Chief Nursing Officer spanning professional practice and education for nursing as well as the senior leader responsible for professional practice in all allied health disciplines. He is also responsible for the Mental Health, Addictions and clinical HIV/AIDS programs as well at PHC's urban health and aboriginal strategies. David's leadership focuses on providing coordinated, interprofessional, evidence based, safe and competent care.
He is responsible for the implementation of strategic directions for the mental health, addictions and HIV/AIDS programs along with nursing and allied health. He leads the continuing advancement of nursing and allied health practice and ensures the establishment, implementation and evaluation of standards of practice, quality management and academic and research advancement for professionals across Providence Health Care.
David is a registered nurse who received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. He received his Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia. He is currently the President of the Xi Eta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and an executive council member of the Lower Mainland Chapter of the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.

Zulie Sachedina
Vice President, Human Resources and General Counsel

Zulie joined Providence Health Care as Vice President of Human Resources and General Counsel in November 2001. In addition to her human resources responsibilities, Zulie also acts as General Counsel, managing all legal-related matters for the organization. Prior to embarking on a legal career, Zulie was Director of Human Resources at the Orthopedic and Arthritic Hospital in Toronto. She has a background in health administration and in law, with experience in health and human resource management, human rights, international development and administrative law. She holds a BA in Sociology and Political Science, a Masters of Health Science, and was called to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1992 and the Law Society of British Columbia in 2001. Zulie is currently an instructor for the UBC Masters of Health Administration program and was appointed to the Board of BC Human Resources Management Association in June 2008.

Barbara Trerise
Vice President, Innovation Patient Safety & Information Management

Barbara Trerise, MHSc, is Vice President Innovation, Patient Safety & Information Management.
In this capacity, Barbara leads the development, execution and evaluation of the innovation, patient safety and quality improvement strategic directions at Providence Health Care. In addition she directs the Executive Director of the Lower Mainland Health Information Management Service and acts as PHC's executive liaison with the Lower Mainland Consolidated Information Management Information Technology Service.
Barbara has 35 years of progressive experience in a variety of nursing and hospital administration positions in British Columbia and Ontario. She has published articles in the areas of culture development, economic evaluation and utilization management. She has also presented at national and international conferences on performance measurement and improvement, innovation, and demand modelling. She also holds an appointment as Faculty Associate in the Centre for Evaluation and Outcomes Sciences.
She earned a Master of Science degree in Health Administration from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Administrative Studies degree from York University, and a Diploma in Nursing from the Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing.

David Thompson
Vice President, Seniors Care & Clinical Support Services

David Thompson is Vice President - Seniors Care & Clinical Support Services. In this role, he is responsible for the Elder Care Program (residential services, rehabilitation services, geriatric acute medicine and mental health and assisted living services), PHC's Seniors Strategy, PHC's Chronic Disease Management Strategy, Hospice & Palliative Care Services, Providence Lifeline Program, Lower Mainland Consolidated (LMC) Biomedical Engineering Services, PHC Liaison for LMC Laboratory Services, Diagnostic Imaging and Pharmacy Services, Site Leaders for St. Vincent's - Langara, Brock Farhni, Honoria Conway and Youville Residence and Holy Family Hospital. He is also the Seniore Leadership Team Liaison for the Tapestry Foundation.
Prior to his current position, David was Corporate Director for Seniors Care and Elder Care Program Director at PHC.
David has worked in Residential Services and Information Management with the Fraser Health Authority in British Columbia. He also worked in Information Management with Providence Health Care in Vancouver prior to joining Fraser Health. David's career also includes Director roles in the field of Quality & Utilization Improvement in British Columbia.
David holds a Master of Health Sciences (Health Administration) from The University of Toronto and a Certificate in Health Promotion & Adult Education from the University of Western Ontario.
David is a member of the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL) and is Chair of the Lower Mainland Chapter Executive Council for CCHL. He is a Certified Health Executive (CHE) of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He is also a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada. David recently completed his Executive Training in Research Application (EXTRA) Fellowship through the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation. David has served on many provincial committees and task forces throughout his career in Seniors Care, Residential Services, Information Manager and Quality & Utilization Improvement.
